About
Our History
In our relentless pursuit of reclaiming and revitalizing the Lakota Language, we delved into every available resource - from videos to audio recordings to curriculum materials. However, what we uncovered was more than just language materials; it was an unsettling revelation about our history. As Lakota people, we have been subjected to data mining since the Pre-Reservation era (1900s), where our language and way of life were exploited for their perceived beauty.
This realization ignited a radical shift within us. We understood that merely reclaiming our language wasn't enough; we needed to confront the systemic exploitation that had plagued our people for generations. We refused to remain passive bystanders in the face of these injustices. It became evident that to truly reclaim our language and the spaces it once thrived in, we must shine a light on these untold truths.
Our commitment goes beyond ourselves; it is a dedication to future generations. We refuse to let history repeat itself. We strive to ensure that our beautiful language remains accessible to all who seek it, unencumbered by exploitation or manipulation. This is our radical act of resistance, our promise to safeguard our heritage for generations to come.
